Render Cleaning Melbourne
Low-pressure render cleaning that lifts mould and grime off rendered walls without cracking the surface or stripping paint. Homes and commercial buildings across Melbourne.
Professional render cleaning across Melbourne
Render is porous. That texture is what gives it the finish people want, and it’s also what holds moisture, spores and dirt — which is why rendered walls in Melbourne go green and black on the shaded elevations within a few years of being built.
High pressure is the wrong tool for it. It opens the surface so the wall holds dirt worse than before, strips through paint and texture coat, and can take render off the wall entirely where it has already gone drummy. We soft wash instead — low pressure, the right solution, and time to let it work. We’ve been cleaning rendered homes and buildings across Melbourne since 2015.
Signs Your Render Needs Cleaning
Render hides its problems well until it doesn’t. These are the ones worth acting on.
Green or black on the south wall
The shaded elevations go first. Algae and mould establish wherever the wall stays damp longest, which in Melbourne is almost always the south and south-east sides.
Dark run marks below windows
Streaks running down from sills, gutter joints and downpipes are dirt carried by water. Left alone they etch into the texture and stop washing out.
A chalky, powdery surface
Rub the wall and your hand comes away white. That’s the coating breaking down — cleaning it properly now buys years before it needs recoating.
Mould back faster each year
If growth returns within months of the last clean, it was washed off rather than killed. The root structure stays in the render and regrows from it.
Patchy, uneven colour
Render ages unevenly depending on sun and shelter. A full clean brings the whole elevation back to one colour rather than a patchwork.
Selling or getting a valuation
Rendered walls are the first thing in every photo. A clean facade is one of the cheapest things you can do before a campaign.
Residential and Commercial Render Cleaning
Same method either way — the difference is access, scale and paperwork.
Residential
Rendered homes, feature walls, fences and retaining walls. We cover plants and furniture, soft wash the full elevation, and leave the surface to dry back to an even colour. Fixed price confirmed before we start, with before-and-after photos every time.
Commercial
Rendered building facades for strata managers, facilities teams and property developers. Multi-storey access, height-safety certification, $20M public liability, out-of-hours scheduling and documented before-and-after photos for your records.
Trusted By Leading Melbourne Businesses
We clean for schools, strata groups, retail chains and facilities managers right across Melbourne.
Why choose Exterior Clean Melbourne for render cleaning
Soft wash only — never high pressure
High pressure opens the texture, strips paint and lifts render off the substrate. We use low pressure and let the solution do the work.
We check the render first
Drummy sections, hairline cracks and failed patches get found before we start, not discovered halfway through. If something needs a renderer rather than a cleaner, we’ll say so.
Treatment that kills the growth
Our solution kills mould and algae at the root rather than rinsing the colour off the top, so it stays clean far longer than a pressure wash.
Fully licensed and insured
WorkCover and $20M public liability, with WPC, White Cards, Police Checks and Working at Heights across the team.
Fixed price before we start
Free quotes and no hidden costs. The number we give you is the number you pay.
Before and after photos
Every job is photographed and sent through, so you can see exactly what changed — useful for strata records and agents alike.
Render Types We Clean
Each finish behaves differently under solution and pressure. We work out which one you have before picking a method.
Acrylic texture coat
The most common finish on newer Melbourne homes. Flexible and coloured through, but the texture traps spores and it scars permanently under pressure. Soft wash only.
Traditional cement render
Sand and cement over brick or block, often painted. More robust than acrylic but more porous — mould gets further in, so the solution needs longer to dwell.
Bagged and painted brickwork
A thin skim over brick. The paint film is what’s protecting it, so anything that strips paint takes the protection with it and the brick starts drinking water.
How Our Render Cleaning Works
Low pressure, the right solution, and enough time for it to work.
Assessment and fixed quote
We check the render type, condition, height and access, then lock in a fixed price. Free quotes, no hidden costs.
Protection and prep
Plants, furniture, lighting and anything else at risk gets covered. Windows and doors checked and closed.
Soft wash solution applied
Low-pressure application across the full elevation, worked from the bottom up so nothing streaks ahead of the clean.
Dwell and agitate
The solution is left to kill the growth at the root. Heavier areas get agitated by hand rather than hit harder with pressure.
Low-pressure rinse and photos
Rinsed down, surrounds washed off, and before-and-after photos sent through once the wall has dried back to an even colour.

Render cleaning FAQs
Will cleaning damage my render?
Not the way we do it. What damages render is high pressure — it opens up the texture so the wall holds dirt worse than before, cuts through paint and texture coat, and can take render off the wall entirely where it has gone drummy. Soft washing uses low pressure and a solution that does the work chemically instead.
Why don’t you pressure wash render?
Because the damage is usually invisible until later. A pressure-washed render wall can look fine the day it’s done and then hold dirt far faster from that point on, because the surface has been roughened. On painted or texture-coated render you also risk stripping the coating that’s protecting the substrate.
Will the mould come back?
Eventually — it’s a living thing and Melbourne is damp. But our solution kills it at the root rather than rinsing the colour off the surface, so regrowth is far slower. Most rendered homes are on a yearly or two-yearly cycle, shaded and south-facing walls at the shorter end.
Can you clean painted render?
Yes, and it’s one of the main reasons to soft wash rather than pressure clean. Low pressure lifts the growth without lifting the paint film. If the paint is already failing or flaking we’ll tell you before we start rather than after.
How long does a render clean take?
A standard single-storey rendered home is usually a half-day job. Larger or two-storey properties, or walls with heavy established growth that needs a longer dwell, can run to a full day.
Do you clean commercial rendered buildings?
Regularly. We work with strata managers, facilities teams and developers across Melbourne, with height-safety certification, $20M public liability and out-of-hours scheduling where access demands it.
