Professional gutter cleaning across Melbourne

Climbing a ladder to clear your own gutters isn’t most people’s idea of a good weekend, and on multi-storey properties it’s not something to attempt at all. Blocked gutters and downpipes can’t do their one job — carrying water safely away — and the result is rust, rot, water damage and even subsidence.

We’ve cleaned gutters on hundreds of Melbourne properties since 2015, single, double and 3–4 storey alike. The method is always the same: full clearance of gutters and downpipes, not just the parts you can see from the ground.

Signs Your Gutters Need Cleaning

Gutters fail quietly. By the time you notice a problem inside, water has usually been getting where it shouldn’t for months. Here’s what to look for from the ground.

Plants and debris living in your gutters

Plants and debris living in your gutters

Seedlings, grass and moss don’t grow on metal — they grow in the silt that builds up underneath. If something is sprouting up there, the debris below it has been sitting long enough to hold moisture year-round, and the gutter hasn’t drained properly in a while.

Gutters pulling away from the fascia

A blocked gutter is heavy. Wet leaf litter, silt and standing water add serious weight, and that load drags the brackets away from the timber. Once a section dips, water pools in the low point instead of reaching the downpipe — which speeds up the rust and the sagging both. Left long enough, the brackets tear out.

Water spilling over the edge when it rains

If water sheets over the front of the gutter instead of running to the downpipe, the channel is full or the downpipe is blocked. It’s the clearest sign there is and the easiest to check — just look out the window next time it rains properly.

Residential and Commercial Gutter Cleaning

Most homeowners call us because they don’t want to be up a ladder — and on a two-storey home, they shouldn’t be. We clear gutters and downpipes across single and double-storey properties, check the flow, and send you a completion report with photos so you can see what came out. How our gutter cleaning works

The full system cleared and checked — gutters, downpipes and flow — on every job.

1

Assessment and fixed quote

We assess your property’s height, gutter length and access, and lock in a fixed price before we start. No surprises on the day.

2

Full clearance

We remove all leaves, debris and build-up from the gutters, working from the downpipes and corners outwards — that’s where clogs form first.

3

Downpipes cleared

We check and clear every downpipe, flushing them through so blockages further down the system are found and removed, not just the ones you can see.

4

Flow check

We run water through and confirm it moves freely from the far end of the gutter all the way out. We also flag any sagging, loose joints or rust we spot along the way.

5

Maintenance report and photos

We provide a complete Job Completion & Maintenance Report along with before-and-after photos, so you know exactly what was done.

The Perfect Combo: Gutters and Roof Together

Blocked gutters and a mossy roof are usually the same problem seen from two angles — growth and debris coming off the roof is exactly what fills the gutters underneath it. Clearing one without treating the other means you’re back where you started next season. It’s why most of our customers — homeowners and facilities managers alike — book both at once.

🚚

One visit, one setup

Same team, same day, same height-access equipment already on site. No second booking, no second disruption.

🌿

Nothing washed back down

Roof growth we clear has to land somewhere. Doing the roof first and the gutters straight after means the debris leaves the property instead of settling in the system.

💰

Cheaper than two visits

Booked together, the combo comes in under the cost of two separate jobs. You’ll see the combo price in the quote tool.

Gutter cleaning FAQs

Do I still need cleaning if I have gutter guards?

Yes. Guards reduce blockages but don’t eliminate them — silt, dust, seeds and fine debris still get through the gaps designed for water flow, and guards themselves can clog over time. Regular cleaning catches what guards miss.

How often should I have my gutters cleaned?

Twice a year is the right cadence for most Melbourne properties, typically spring and autumn. More often if you’re surrounded by trees, or if you’re in a semi-rural area or somewhere that cops frequent storms.

What happens if I don’t clean my gutters?

Water overflows instead of draining away, and it has to go somewhere. That usually means pooling around your foundations, which leads to subsidence and mould, water backing up under the roofline into the frame, rust and corrosion shortening the gutters’ life, and standing water that becomes a breeding ground for mosquitoes and termites.

Do I need to be home?

Not if we have safe access. We’ll confirm access details when you book, complete the work, and send you before-and-after photos when we’re done.

Are you insured?

Yes — Exterior Clean Melbourne carries full public liability cover and our teams are height-safety certified. If you need documentation for insurance or strata purposes, just ask.

Do you provide SWMS and insurance documentation?

Yes. Every commercial job comes with a Safe Work Method Statement, and we can supply certificates of currency for our $20M public liability and WorkCover on request. Facilities and strata managers usually want these on file before we start.

Can you work after hours or on weekends?

Yes. For schools, retail sites and occupied commercial buildings we regularly schedule outside trading or teaching hours to keep disruption down. Let us know your access windows and we’ll build the job around them.

Do you service multiple sites or ongoing contracts?

We do. We hold regular contracts with strata groups, facilities managers, and NDIS and aged care providers across Melbourne — scheduled maintenance rather than one-off cleans. One agreement, one point of contact, and a completion report for every site visit.

How do I get a quote?
